The Togo national soccer team, the Hawks have given the assurance that playing away from home would not hinder their chances of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations.
The Hawks are serving a three match home ban and will launch their campaign against the Chipolopolos of Zambia in a Group 11 clash at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Saturday.
Mawulawoe Ameyi, Vice President of the Togo Football Federation (FTF) told the media at a press conference on Friday that playing in Accra will not impede the team’s chances.
He said his outfit chose Ghana due to the proximity and friendly relations of the people of the two countries adding that the venue will enable many fans to travel to Ghana to cheer the team to victory.
Ameyi described Ghana as a second home to Togolese, while praising the government and sports authorities for accepting their request.
Togo honoured their first home fixture of the first round of the African Nation Championships (CHAN) qualifier against Ghana in Accra two weeks ago, and FTF Vice-President believes they would not have any problems adjusting to their adopted home.
The Vice President reiterated that their objective is to qualify for both competitions and are working feverishly towards the realization of that goal.
Only one team will progress to the next round of the group, which includes Swaziland.
Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor said his side is well prepared for victory at the expense of the Chipolopolos, whom he described as a tough side.
"Zambia is a tough side with good technical and tactical abilities. But we are determined for victory."
The Arsenal hit-man said he watched the Chipolopolos during the 26th MTN African Cup of Nations, Ghana 2008 but the Hawks have the capacity to beat them.
Adebayor also called on Ghanaian football fans to throw their weight behind them as they begin another journey towards the emulation of the historic feat in 2006.
Togo qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2006 from a tough group which included Zambia and Mali.
