‘I need job, not refresher course’

Coach Mohammed Polo insists he is qualified enough to be appointed coach of one of the national teams in the country.

Without mincing words therefore, he stated that he would not accept any offer from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with regard to sponsoring him to go for a refresher course abroad.

Polo’s statement was in reaction to a question posed to him as to whether he would accept GFA’s aid to embark on a refresher course abroad.

Rumours were rife that the GFA, as its contribution to upgrading local coaches’ knowledge in modern football techniques, had decided to sponsor 14 coaches including Polo to start refresher courses in Europe soon.

But sounding unhappy about the development, Polo who said he was yet to hear from the GFA concerning the sponsorship package, stated, “I will not accept the offer because it would be an insult to local coaches.

“So is the GFA hierarchy trying to tell the local coaches that we are not ripe and competent enough to handle any of the national teams, hence their decision to send us abroad for refresher courses?” he asked angrily.

In an interview on Boss FM in Kumasi, the Dribbling Magician said he was a serious coach who was aiming to reach higher heights in coaching, therefore he had already embarked on numerous refresher courses abroad to upgrade himself at his own expense and did not need the help of the GFA.

“I already possess all the intricacies in modern football that any ambitious coach should know.

So right now, what I need is a job to handle any of the national teams around and nothing else, period!”

The ex-Ghana international argued that he was better than some of the coaches that were now handling some of country’s national teams, stressing that it was high-time the GFA accorded him the due respect by appointing him coach of any of the national teams in the country.
