Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations on Thursday formally opened the African Liberation Square, which now has Tourist Information Office attached for tourists to learn about the country's history.

The African Liberation Square was built by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana, in 1965 as a symbol of African’s struggle for independence, total African liberation and unity.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Asamoah-Boateng said the nation was the birthplace for the liberation movement and therefore had a story to tell to the outside world.

"Ghana played a very significant role in the fight for Africa's freedom and therefore has a story to tell", he said.

He said the centre was decorated with the Quote of Arms and the portraits of the Heads of States of all African countries, who were in the fore-front of the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) now the African Union (AU).

The Minister expressed his intention to extend the initiative to other parts of the country and appealed to stakeholders in the tourism industry to let tourists be aware of tourism sites in the country.
