A total of 12 candidates of the just ended Basic Education Certificate examination (BECE) in the Nkwanta District of the Volta region failed to write the examinations. The District Examination Officer, Mr Cornelius Akorlie, disclosed to the GNA at Nkwanta, said the absentee candidates consisted of seven boys and five girls. He said two of them died before commencement of the examination, five decided not to write the examination, three dropped out of school while the rest had gained admission into Senior Secondary Schools. Mr Akorlie said seven of the candidates came from schools in Kpassa, three from Brewniase and two from Nkwanta. He said a total of 1,187 candidates from 46 schools in the district took part in the examination out of which 807 were boys and 380 girls. Three private schools also presented 24 candidates made up of 19 boys and five girls. Source: GNA
