A total of 120 women in the Nkwanta District of the Volta Region are being trained in various skills to help them establish their own businesses to improve their livelihoods.
Marie Schlei Association, a German non-governmental organization (NGO), is sponsoring the training which would be organised for the beneficiaries in four groups, would last three months for each group.
The women who were selected from the Basari, Adele and Akyode communities and the Christian Light Church at Nkwanta are learning bakery, soap making and powder and pomade making.
Mr Mawuena Damson, Project Director of Women and Youth Survival Foundation, a local NGO implementing the training programme, said each participant would attend a business management-training workshop in January next year to enable them to start their own businesses.
He said participants would receive loans as start-up capital adding that the German NGO last year supported 100 women in vegetable farming with 8,700 Ghana cedis.
Professor Dr Christa Randzio-Plath, President of the German NGO, said the group supported women in Africa, Asia and Latin America financially to enable them undertake self-help activities to enhance their education and standards of living.
She said the NGO was supporting 300 projects involving women in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
