Over one thousand applicants in the just ended biometric registration exercise in the Central Region are being challenged to prove their identity.
Others are also being challenged to provide concrete evidence to confirm their age.
In all, 1,235 challenged forms are under examination in the Upper Denkyira East, Gomoa West, Assin North, Mfantseman, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem and Agona West districts of the Central Region.
The Region’s Director of the Electoral Commission, Philomena Adusei told Joy News Television in an interview a probe into the claims has begun in earnest.
Mrs. Adusei said a 5-year voting ban could be imposed on those found guilty.
Meanwhile, out of the projected 1,186,274 applicants in the region, the EC recorded 1,222,618, a 26,520 increase in the region’s voter population.
At the end of the fourth phase of the registration exercise, Cape Coast recorded the highest number of prospective voters – 104,899 followed by Gomoa East with 85,106 and Kasoa 81,720. Ekumfi however recorded the least number of 32,014.
Some districts however did not meet the projected figure.
They include Komenda-Edina –Eguafo- Abrem recording 77,267 instead of 77,298, Cape Coast -104,899 instead of 114,633 and Abura Asebu Kwamankese registering 55,751 instead of 61,272.
