Police in the Eastern Region have arrested fifteen people for alleged possession of narcotic substances suspected to be Indian hemp (‘wee’).
The 15 were picked up after a 3-hour swoop at different locations in selected municipalities of the regional capital, Koforidua.
Police say the 15 people – who are believed to drug pushers -- are between the ages of 18 and 38 years.
Spokesperson for the Police in the Eastern Region, ASP Yaw Nketia Yeboah, said items retrieved during the special operation include large amounts of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
He said a parcel of seeds of the banned herb was also retrieved at some locations during the swoop.
ASP Nketia Yeboah urged that the public provide information to assist the police to rid the region of drug pushers.
The suspects are being processed for court, police said.
