Director of Analyses, Research and Finance of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Christopher Opoku Nyarko, has charged personnel of the Ghana Police Service deployed to the Mining Companies to execute their duties effectively with professionalism.
He believes abiding by the ethics of the service will prohibit the officers from infringing on the fundamental rights of community members at the catchments of operation of the mining companies.
Mr Nyarko made the call during a training workshop organized by the Chamber for 150 police personnel at the Ghana Police Command and Staff College in Winneba.
According to him, the training is part of their collaboration with the Ghana Police Service who help provide security to assets at the various mining companies.

“These trainings are organized periodically to enhance service delivery to the mining industry and the country as a whole. That is the reason we brought a team comprising the Chamber Legal Person, Madam Shaila Minkah Premo, some operational officers from the Mines led by the chairman of the Chamber Security committee”, he said.
Participants were trained on the Minerals and Mining Act for the Public Security Officer, Ethical Considerations on Mine, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights and Security threats in mining operations and Response, among others.
The officers were urged to cooperate and live cohesively with security personnel already at post in various mining companies.
Staff Officer Operations, DSP Mose Gyan Mpettey, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and the Police Administration, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the workshop.
He assured of exemplary service from the officers in making good use of the knowledge and skills adopted for policing the various companies.
