A 19-year-old girl has slashed the throat of her day-old baby in Atenkrom, a village near Akyem Etwereso in the Eastern Region.
The teenager whose name was given as Patience alias Mommie, self-delivered a baby boy last Friday dawn but claimed parts of the baby looked like an animal.
According to a witness, Nana Owusu, Patience took the baby into a nearby bush and slit its throat with a kitchen knife.
She then dumped the corpse in a cocoa farm and returned home.
When asked about the child by her uncle and elders of the village, Patience refused to disclose his location.
This compelled the youth in the community to mount a search for the baby and after several hours found the body on the cocoa farm wrapped in a sack.
Many alleged that Patience who already has a five year old child has been suffering from postpartum depression, hence her action.
She recently returned to her village from Accra where she had been staying to deliver.
The suspect has since been arrested by the Akyem Ofoase District Police to assist with investigation.
Meanwhile, the body of the baby has been deposited at the Oda Government Hospital morgue.
