Netherlands-based eco-friendly paper roll manufacturer, Good Roll Netherlands BV, has chosen Ghana as its major expansion hub for the African continent under a €5.17M beyond Europe internationalization module.
Good Roll Factory Ghana, under government’s flagship One-District-One-Factory Initiative, intends to install bamboo toilet paper making machines with the capacity to produce 50TPD toilet roll.
Paying a working visit to the factory located at Akwamufie, Akosombo in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa, said “the factory is about 90% complete. We came here to ensure that they are in compliance with the 1-D-1-F programme and other eco-friendly policies. This factory is using 100% bamboo grown in Ghana for 120,000 toilet rolls in a day. It comes with indirect and direct jobs. By the middle of February the factory is to be completed".
Also, Chief Executive Officer of Good Roll Factory Ghana, Faisal Achnem, disclosed to Joy Business that the company will transition to exporting full scale under the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement Area.
“We want to be the first toilet paper factory in Africa that makes toilet paper from bamboo. This means that we will do everything we can to organize our business operations in such a way that we meet the fair for life criteria.”
“In the future, we will also set up a programme for local farmers to grow more bamboo themselves, so that we can deal sustainably with backward integration and further growth of ‘The Good Roll Factory’. We will do this in consultation with INBAR,”, he stated.
The Good Roll (TGR) Netherlands, the biggest shareholder of the Good Roll Africa is a scale-up business, founded in 2017 and located in Weesp. The Good Roll Factory is a Venture that produces and supplies recycled toilet paper.
Not only is the toilet paper environmentally friendly and sustainable, TGR also donates 50% of its net profit to the construction of sanitation facilities in West Africa.
Although the Good Roll was a modest start-up, it has grown strongly in a very short time, which means that it can now officially call itself a scale-up.
