Police and National Disaster Management Organization personnel in the Ashanti Region have retrieved bodies of two male adults who died in an accident after their vehicle plunged into a river.
Corpses of 35-year old Philip Yankey, a chief clerk with the Anglo Gold Ashanti and the other who is yet to be identified have been deposited at the AGA Hospital in Obuasi.
The tragedy occurred on Thursday at the River Ago section of the Kumasi-Obuasi Road which has been described as an accident-prone spot.
Eyewitness says Mr. Yankey who was behind the steering wheel of a Nissan Sentra Saloon car lost control of the car as he attempted to overtake a Mercedes Benz 207 Benz bus.
It is the fourth time this year that a vehicle has plunged into the river.
NADMO officials blame the situation on the absence of road signs to warn motorists of an abandoned ‘galamsey’ pit which has become a death-trap near the river.
Regional NADMO Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Bulamatari says his outfit will discuss the issue with the Regional Directorate of the Urban Roads Department.
He cautions drivers against over -speeding and other safety breaches which according to him many motorists on the Kumasi-Obuasi road are guilty of.
