Two illegal miners died instantly when the mining pit in which they were working collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday at Atokosue, near Enchi in the Western Region.
Several others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Enchi Government Hospital.
The two deceased whose names were given only as Habib, 39, and Mohammed will be buried this evening in accordance with Islamic traditions.
One of the victims of the accident, Razak Kassim, told Myjoyonline.com he and his brother Abdul-Rahman Kassim were both in the pit when it collapsed.
He said both of his legs are badly fractured.
Razak said there was panic when the pit caved in with rescuers digging blindly into the mud.
"I was reciting the Qur'an so the rescuers could hear me, that is how I was saved," he said.
The miner said the rescue effort turned into recovery effort when they realised Habib and Mohammed were dead.
