A baby girl suspected to be a Siamese twin with two heads and one umbilical cord was born in Borae, a town in the Krachie West District of the Volta Region to a 25-year-old woman, Hamadatu Hajara, a Fulani.
Unfortunately, the baby died soon after it was delivered.
According to information available to Daily Guide, Hamadu Hajara reported to the health centre around 3:30.a.m on July 13, 2011 in the company of her parents from Kwamekrom in the same district.
Mary Antu, the midwife on duty who delivered the expectant mother, said Hamadatu reported to the health facility bleeding.
“Initially, when the parents brought her to the hospital, she was bleeding profusely and so I requested that they take her to the District Hospital,” she said.
Madam Antu said when the baby was finally delivered, she had two heads conjoined with one body and was still-born.
She said the mother was discharged hours after delivery.
Confirming the story, Dr. Felix Doe, the District Director of Health, said it was not a rare occurrence.
He said some of the babies were delivered alive while others died.
He said while some were joined in the head, others were joined at the back but in both cases, doctors were able to separate them when they were alive.
Recently, some Siamese twins were delivered in Accra but later died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
