Two persons have been arrested in connection with the violence that occurred at Jamestown in the Odododiodio constituency on Sunday.

The Accra Region Police PRO, DSP Afia Tenge in an interview with JoyNews on Tuesday said the Jamestown Police arrested the suspects after their investigation confirmed them as having initiated the disturbance.

According to her, the Police is working relentlessly to ensure that all perpetrators of the unlawful act are brought to book.

“Earlier, I had mentioned that some names have been picked up and that the police was working thoroughly on those names, these two persons were arrested just this afternoon.

“And so we are exploiting all other avenues to ensure that persons whose names have appeared on our records of having caused the disturbances at the Ododoiodio constituency would be arrested for due course to follow,” she said.

A peace walk by supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned violent in Jamestown in the Odododiodio constituency on Sunday morning.

In a video sighted by Myjoyonline.com supporters of the two leading parties were hurling bottles at each other amidst the firing of gunshots.

At least 20 persons were injured in the clash whilst a building believed to be the NPP’s office was vandalized.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo today has condemned the fight that ignited amongst the supporters.

Speaking to some residents in the area as part of his three-day tour in the Greater Accra Region, the President stressed that a peaceful election is what will promote development, hence, electorates should always exhibit tolerance and love to one another.

“We want peace in Accra. The election is about expressing your view and your choice, therefore, there is no need to fight. Only those who have nothing to offer start trouble. If you have a good message, you sell it rather than being violent.

“I am pleading with you, we want peace in Accra during the elections, the world is watching us and we have to behave properly,” he said.

He then urged the citizens to take into account his works over the past four years in government and retain him come December 7, 2020.
