Joseph Yankey, a 20-year old carpenter at Assakai near Takoradi on Monday appeared before a Takoradi District Magistrate's Court for allegedly defrauding by false pretences.
The accused, whose plea was not taken, was remanded to assist the Police in its investigations and to re-appear on April 13, this year.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Michael Ahiadzu, said sometime in October 2009, the accused collected an amount of GH¢460 from John Eshun, the complainant on the pretext of selling a plot of land at Assakai to him.
He said after collecting the money, the accused presented the complainant with a plot of land, which did not belong to him and when he began to develop the land the rightful owner came and stopped him.
Chief Inspector Ahiadzu said the complainant searched for the accused to get back his money but he could not trace him.
He said the complainant reported the matter to the Police, who arrested the accused.
Chief Inspector Ahiadzu said the accused admitted the offence in his caution statement and after investigations he was charged.
