An inshore fishing vessel, Joy George (CR 338 – EL), was involved in an accident at sea after striking a rock during a voyage off the Elmina coast in the Central Region.
According to the Fisheries Commission, the impact caused leakage in the vessel, but all 23 crew members escaped unhurt and have since returned safely to their homes.

The Joy George is currently positioned at the breakwaters of Elmina Castle.
A technical team from the Fisheries Commission successfully towed the vessel to safety today, with plans to move it ashore by noon tomorrow, August 21, 2025.
The incident was confirmed in a brief report by Mr. Nettesheim Kwame Damoah, Regional Director of Fisheries for the Central Region.
