The Ofaakor Circuit Court in Kasoa has remanded three Nigerian nationals into police custody while granting bail to a Ghanaian woman in connection with an alleged kidnapping and fraud case involving a Nigerian victim.
The presiding judge, Asantewaa Atakorah, ordered that the three Nigerian suspects, Muhyadeen, Bartholomew Chukunoner, and Joseph Kayan, be remanded, while Linda Asante Boateng was granted bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties and a landed property.
The accused are alleged to have kidnapped and defrauded Effraim Emaka, a fellow Nigerian. All four pleaded not guilty and are expected to reappear in court on February 6, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the suspects were arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Department following a complaint by the victim.
Investigations revealed that they allegedly lured Mr. Emaka from Rivers State, Nigeria, to Ghana under the pretext of assisting him to travel abroad.
The prosecution said the suspects initially demanded 150,000 naira as processing fees before later requesting an additional 2.5 million naira.
The victim reportedly sold his house and other properties in Nigeria and travelled to Ghana with his car, anticipating the trip abroad.
Upon arrival, the suspects allegedly kidnapped him, seized his mobile phones, and continued to defraud him using various excuses, leading to their eventual arrest.
Speaking after the proceedings, the victim said he had been left devastated, having lost his job in Nigeria and sold his house, leaving him to “start life all over again.”
