Three people were seriously injured in an accident when a demonstration staged by taxi drivers against the Kintampo Police turned sour Thursday morning.
The accident occurred when two taxis run into each other in an attempt to escape from the Police who had turned out in their numbers on the Kintampo-Tamale road during the demonstration.
According to Adas FM’s Wiafe Akenten, the drivers accused the Kintampo Police of extorting huge monies from them on that particular road. Subsequent to that, a police officer was allegedly assaulted physically on Sunday.
Wiafe told Adom News, the drivers claimed the Police had mounted spot checks on the road and were taking as much as Ghc 20 and Ghc 50 and so they were not ready to work.
“The whole of the morning the drivers have refused to ply the Kintampo-Tamale road. They say the Police are taking too much money from them,” Wiafe reported.
However, Wiafe said the area Commander has ordered his men off the road, to enable the drivers to go about their duties.
Meanwhile, the injured have been taken to the Kintampo Government Hospital for treatment.
