The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed that 40 of the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers have been traced to a warehouse owned by a Chinese national at Kpone, near Tema.
He made this disclosure during an interview with TV3 on Wednesday, 26 March, commending the efforts of national security and law enforcement agencies in tracking down the missing containers.
“The important issue is the whereabouts of these containers. The briefing I received this morning indicates that about 40 of them have already been traced to a warehouse in Kpone, which belongs to a Chinese national. All 40 containers have been confiscated and moved to a secure location,” Mr Jinapor stated.
According to the Minister, the warehouse owner claimed that the containers were sold to him last year. However, he stressed that the matter is under investigation, and the law enforcement agencies will ensure that justice is served.
“This is now a subject of investigation, and the law enforcement agencies will make sure the law takes its course,” he added.
Mr Jinapor also noted that intelligence reports suggest there are more missing containers in other locations. He assured the public that security agencies are actively pursuing leads to retrieve all the missing containers and bring those responsible to justice.
“They have identified other locations and are following up to recover all the containers and ensure the perpetrators are prosecuted before competent courts,” he affirmed.
