The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has organised its first ever National Skills Competition.

The event dubbed “Skills for Jobs and National Development” was organised by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony Wednesday, Executive Director of the Board of Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), Fred Kyei Asamoah, acknowledged the help of President Akufo-Addo, Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Madam Barbara Asher Ayisi Deputy Minister in Charge of TVET, for their dedication and commitment towards skills development and their support in making this occasion a reality.

“I express my appreciation to the Planning Committee for their support in putting this competition together,” he added.

This first-ever Skills Competition is part of efforts being made to promote skills training and development for industrialisation and generate greater awareness of the importance of TVET.

Also, the National Skills Competition sought to bring the exploits of TVET into the policy and public discourse.

The competition also provided the needed platform as Ghana prepares to participate in the World Skills International, come next year.

Kyei Asamoah welcome all the distinguished competitors for their boldness and enthusiasm to participate in this contest, “you have travelled from both far and near to present yourself for this competition.”

He congratulated 450 applicants for emerging as the best skills in the skills areas that they competed in, in the Northern and Southern Zones.

“I thank the Technical Experts and Judges for accepting the invitation of the Board of COTVET to put up the tasks for the competition and serving as judges. I also welcome and thank heads of TVET Institutions and their representatives who have come to support their participants,” he stated.
