Five persons have been confirmed dead in an accident involving a Hyundai H100 minibus and a stationary Man Diesel truck at Suhum – Omenako along the Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
Another five passengers also sustained various degrees of injuries in the incident which happened on Wednesday dawn and are receiving treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.
The Eastern Regional spokesperson for the Ghana Police Service, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh in an interview said the driver of the minibus with registration number ER 1335-Z with passengers on board was commuting from Nkawkaw to Accra.
But on reaching a section of the road at Omenako near Suhum on the highway, he overtook a vehicle ahead of him without observing traffic from the opposite direction.
Thus, in the process crashed into the faulty Man Diesel trailer truck with registration number GN 6885-20 of suspect, Asam Musah; 46 years, loaded with unspecified quantities of Guinness crates.
According to DSP Tetteh, the five passengers on board the Hyundai bus died on the spot including the driver while the other five passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to the health facility for immediate attention.
He added that the bodies have since been deposited at the same hospital morgue pending autopsy.
