All five flagbearer aspirants of the opposition New Patriotic Party have been cleared to contests in the party’s primary in August.Later Friday, selected delegates will vote to determine the positions of the aspirants on the ballot paper. The aspirants are Mr Isaac Osei, the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin and former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom; Mr John Kwame Koduah, a Kumasi-based legal practitioner; Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital; Mr Alan Kyerematen, a former Minister of Trade and Industry and Nana Addo Dankwa, the presidential candidate of the party in the 2008 elections. They all passed the test, unlike the situation during the 2007 vetting when Captain Nkrabea Effah-Darteh (retd) was disqualified from contesting, paving the way for 17 aspirants to contest.Mr Odoi-Sykes said the committee would submit its report to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party today, in accordance with the NPP constitution.Article 9B of the constitution spells out the qualification of an aspirant, including proven membership for a specified period, and enjoins the vetting committee to disallow the candidature of any aspirant who is not qualified. It also demanded of the committee to submit its findings in wrinting to the NEC with copies to the aspirants.Source: Joy News, Daily Graphic/Ghana
