As many as Sixty-three (63) children have been named after Deputy Minister of Information, Baba Jamal. The first child named after Baba Jamal is 14-years-old Junior High School pupil, while the latest child to be named after him is just 14 days old. Two of the boys named after the former NDC Deputy General Secretary, are currently living in the United Kingdom while the rest are scattered round the country. Baba Jamal who is now contesting the Akwatia Constituency seat on the ticket of the ruling NDC disclosed to Adom News that only last week, a gentleman walked up to him to inform him that he had named his son after him some four (4) years ago while he (Jamal) was unaware. Even though Baba Jamal is overwhelmed by the number of children named after him, he believes it is an indication of the fact that he had lived a life worthy of emulation by some people who see him as a role model for the society. He does not however believe his involvement in national politics alone accounted for this since he recalled the very first child named after him was in the mid 90’s when he was in his early 20’s and had no plans of entering into national politics. The Deputy Minister appeared excited about the development but added that it also puts a huge task on him because many more will be looking up to him, which means he has to be more circumspect with how he lives his life. He brushed aside accusations that he was a violent person and has been behind some political rioting in his constituency and other parts of the country saying, “I have led an open life since my childhood and the records are there for anybody to go and check”. “I was nominated right at Primary Six as a Cupboard Boy, then became SRC representive for my class at the Secondary School. I was asked to stay for [an] extra six months at St. Roses where I did my national service as a teacher and then I became Local NUGS President at the University plus I occupied a leadership position at the Ghana Muslim Students Union. Throughout this period, if I had any hidden character, I would have been exposed by now,” he stated. Baba Jamal maintained his fear for three things in life: Allah, his parents and to cheat his fellow human.
