The 70-year-old chief of Manso Abram, a village near Bekwai in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region was the lucky winner of the first BMW in the Airtel’s Supa Star promotion.
Nana Ofori Ansah, a veteran of the Ghana Armed Forces, was presented with his brand new BMW car at a ceremony at the VAG Offices at Asawase, in Kumasi.
An elated Nana Ofori Ansah was joined by family, friends and some other veterans to receive the top prize.
He told the crowd that “when Mr. Dennis Duah called to tell me that I was the winner I told him not to play with the heart of an old man like me like that; I didn’t want to believe it but here I am with a brand new vehicle in my pension”, he said jokingly.
Prior to the presentation, the Zonal Business Managers of Airtel in the Ashanti Region, Emmanuel Sarfo and Walter Tabi-Debbrah led a convoy, which included the BMW on a float through some principal streets of Kumasi.
The Airtel Supa promotion, which has been going on for several weeks now, has seen thousands of Airtel users win Samsung phones, cash, shopping vouchers, and trips to Brazil. There are still two more BMWs to be won in the promo.
Marketing Director of Airtel Ghana, Ashish Malhotra said: “What we have done for Nana Ofori Ansah and his family and friends is to give them a double celebration, that is a brand new car, and a victory for the Black Stars for the World Cup qualifier”.
He added that Airtel was happy to see people from across the country win in the promo, saying “we have had winners from the northern region, across the middle belt and the coastal areas winning lots of prizes.”
Youth and Mass Manager at Airtel Ghana, Dennis Awuah Duah said Airtel customers interested in the Supa Star promo would have to spend at least 50 pesewas a day or to recharge with GHC2 and above to gain points after which they would be entered into a draw weekly.
There would be 9 weekly draws and three monthly draws with a BMW car available to be won each month.
“The more you enter, the better your chances of winning in the promo because an increase in your number of points means a higher probability of your number being randomly drawn. As we have seen in the the draws so far, it is a very open process,” he said.
Duah added that Airtel was happy with the response to the promo adding that “our customers have always believed in our promos and they have warmly welcomed this as well because they know it is an open process”, he said.
