Tragedy hit a family at Akim Asiakwa in the East Akyem Municipality when a 70-year-old man was swept away by running waters after a heavy downpour on Thursday.
Madam Akua Attah, a family spokesperson, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the body of Opanin Kwasi Gyimah was retrieved from the river Supon after the heavy downfall, which lasted for some hours.
According to Madam Akua Attah, the deceased was heading towards his house when he fell into a gutter and the swift waters swept him into the swollen river.
She said at night when it was realized that the deceased had not come back home, a search party was organized and after a thorough search he was found in the river chocked by a heap of bamboos.
The case was reported to the Police at Asiakwa and the body was later conveyed to the Kibi Government Hospital for autopsy.
The body has since been buried. The Police at Asiakwa had confirmed the incident.
