The Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) personnel stationed at the Dabala checkpoint in the Volta region has intercepted a bus carrying 834 pieces of textile prints believed to have been smuggled into the country.
The Chief Collector of CEPS in charge of the station, Mr Ben Suuri, told the GNA that following a tip off, CEPS personnel laid ambush between Mafi-Kumasi and Adidome in the North Tongu District.
He said around 2200 hours the bus carrying the prints passed by but refused to stop when flagged down and CEPS personnel gave it a chase.
When CEPS personnel closed in on the vehicle occupants of the bus jumped off into the bush.
Mr Suuri said the seized prints were worth about 14,000 GH cedis with duty valued at 6,000 GH cedis.
He said a woman, whose name he did not disclose, had come to claim ownership of the vehicle but so far no one had claimed ownership of the goods.
