Electricity consumers have been asked to be “cautiously optimistic” as the Volta River Authority (VRA) works to improve power generation and to end the recurrent load shedding exercise in the country. For several months now, parts of the country are plunged in total darkness at different times in a new load shedding regime that has hit the country. Domestic and commercial users are bearing the brunt of the erratic power supply and are waiting anxiously for a lasting solution to what is becoming a national canker. The government, power generators and distributors promised that the load shedding would be over last year but that did not happen. Head of Public Relations at the VRA, Samuel Fletcher told Joy News his outfit is expecting gas at the end of March, 2013 to help increase power generation in the country. He debunked assertions that there have been contradictions from the VRA and ECG on deadlines for the end of the load shedding. He explained that the deadlines his outfit provides are conditional, adding if they are unable to get the gas by end of March it will be difficult to increase production and lesson the effect of the load shedding in the country.
