President John Mahama is heading to the Western Region where he is expected to inspect work being performed on the Aboadze thermal plant.
The president had indicated government’s efforts to add over 500 megawatts of installed generation capacity to Ghana’s existing stock this year in order to ameliorate the discomfort created by power rationing.
Ghana has, over the past few months, been subject to load shedding exercises that have affected both residential and commercial electricity consumers.
In his State of the Nation Address to Parliament last Thursday, President Mahama promised to resolve the crisis. As a show of his commitment to the issue, he is touring the Aboadze Thermal plant where a T3 project, which is expected to generate 132 megawatts by the end of this month and is currently undergoing testing.
Joy FM Western Regional correspondent Kwaku Owusu Peprah, who joined the president on the tour, said the president would be inspecting the T3 project.
He reported that the T3 will run on both crude oil and gas to generate power and that authorities of the Aboadze Thermal Plant expect it to be fully operational by March.
