Victims of rainstorm in Tamale may have to count on a miracle for disaster reliefs because the state institution tasked with the responsibility of providing relief items is 'broke'.The Deputy National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Ebenezer Dosu told Joy News NADMO “has little to live on right now” and to distribute to victims of disasters.According to him, it was the practice of the organisation to buy some relief items on credit but he was quick to add that they have not paid what they credited earlier.Mr Dosu would not fully admit that NADMO is broke, saying the institution is only “challenged.”His comments come at a time when residents in Tamale are in desperate search of relief items following weeks of torrential rains. Some of the victims told Joy News they have no place to sleep because what used to be their home has been destroyed by the rains. They called on government and NADMO to assist them with some relief items in order to ameliorate their plight.Mr Ebenezer Dosu said they have been going round trying to raise the necessary funds and relief items to send to the Tamale victims.Asked whose responsibility it is to fund the organisation, the deputy National Coordinator said the “responsibility is [that of] the whole nation.”
He said the organisation is yet to receive its annual allocation from government.Mr Dosu would not say exactly when the Tamale victims will receive their supplies, saying “they (NADMO)are working round the clock” to assist.
