President John Mahama has appealed to teachers to call off their strike and go back to the classrooms. He begged the teachers to put the interest of the nation first and consider the effect the timing of their strike will have on their students. President Mahama in his appeal to the teachers on Tuesday, said “…the timing [of the strike] is absolutely wrong” since candidates of this year’s West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) are preparing to write the exams. “…We need the teachers to guide them [students] and supervise them,” Mr Mahama noted. Meanwhile a statement issued by the Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga assured that “The West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations are proceeding as planned without any hindrance”. “So far, several practical examinations have been conducted with appropriate invigilation,” the statement said, assuring parents and students that the examinations will come off as planned.
