A group calling itself Citizen’s Governance Network has asked the Christian council to call to order the moderator of Presbyterian church, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey.
The group says they are unhappy about recent remarks by the moderator concerning government’s support to Muslim pilgrims.
Rev. Martey, on Adom TV’s Badwam programme, asked government to stop sponsoring Muslims pilgrims to Hajj in Mecca while commenting on governments infamous attempt to sponsor some Christian leaders on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Isreal. This has generated widespread condemnation for government especially at a time that Ghanaians are enduring serious economic hardships.
In a statement issued Wednesday night, the group demanded Rev. Martey to withdraw his comments within 48 hours or face their wrath.
They also called on the Presbyterian church of Ghana to disassociate itself from “such offensive comments”.

Unacceptable Comments by Presbyterian Church Must Be Retracted Otherwise We Shall Respond
Citizen’s governance Network has been following the Christian Pilgrimage controversy with keen interest. Yet as a reputable organization we haven’t commented nor contributed as it’s purely a Christian and Governmental Issue.
It’s unfortunate to hear the moderator of Presbyterian church Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey calling on the government to stop or discontinue sponsoring Muslims pilgrims to go to Hajj on Badwam on Adom TV.
Fact: The Hajj Pilgrimage is part of the five pillars of Islam and it’s purely an Islamic Business. Therefore it’s very unfortunate that, the moderator of Presbyterian Church would talk about an issue which clearly doesn’t concern him nor have anything to do with his office nor his domain.
We are calling upon the Presbyterian church of Ghana to disassociate itself from such offensive comments and the Christian council of Ghana to call him to order to withdraw the unfortunate comment within 48 hours.
The entire Muslim communities in Ghana including the three northern region of Ghana are ready to advice itself in regarding the growing situation if not properly addressed. Leaders of any high and responsible office are supposed to lead by example but not to use opportunities at their disposal to neither incite violence nor make hates speeches.
Though we know that every Muslim all over that country have shown their displeasure on this issue and are frustrated, we wish to plead with each and every one to stay away from any activity that is likely to cause violence.
Finally we wish to instruct any aggrieved Muslim body not to take the law into their own hands but rather channel it through Citizens Governance Network.
