President Mahama has summoned all the teacher associations in the country to the Flagstaff House this morning in a bid to resolve the impasse rocking the education sector.
The meeting is scheduled for the Flagstaff House at 10 am.
The nationwide strike embarked on by the teachers has had adverse effects on many schools, with some school heads resorting to the use of non teaching staff such as cooks to invigilate examinations.
Monday’s meeting is expected to be attended by officials of the Finance Ministry, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and representatives of the striking teachers.
Meanwhile the teacher unions have indicated they are willing to call off their strike if there is evidence of commitment to address their concerns.
President of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), Peter Lumor, has indicated that if there are signs that government is willing to listen and resolve their grievances a favourable decision will be reached by the management committee of TEWU.
