The husband of renowned herbalist and gospel musician Ellen Adjoa Amoakoa Acheampong, porpularly known as Maame Semenhyia, is said to have committed suicide.The 62-year-old Stephen Amoako (aka Mr Semenhyia) was said to have shot himself last Sunday morning around 10 am after a litle misunderstanding with his wife.Eyewitnesses say the incident attracted a lot of people to the scene with many wondering what could have provoked the man, believed to be a quiet person, to have killed himself. The Kasoa District Police Commander, Chief Suprintendent Ebenezer Asare, confirmed the story to the Daily Guide newspaper, saying that Maame Senmenhyia phoned to inform the police that her husband had shot himself in their bedroom.When the police went to the scene, he said, Mr Semenhyia was lying dead in a pool of blood, while a pump action gun lay beside him.Maame Semenhyia, who identified herself as the wife of the deceased, told the police that her husband killed himself after a misunderstanding that morning.She said Mr. Semenhyia had threatened to kill himself any time they had a quarrel. This compelled her to hide the pump action gun belonging to her husband in their third child’s room.According to the police, the deceased on that Sunday, secretly went for the gun without the knowledge of the wife and child.After a misunderstanding Sunday, Maame Senmenhyia left the hall to attend to a patient who had just called into her clinic which is behind the house. She left her husband alone in the room.Maame Semenhyia told the police that while attending to the patient, she heard the sound of three gunshots emanating from their room and rushed in only to find out what was amiss.The police said Mr. Semenhyia threatened his wife and a carpenter who works in the house not to draw closer to him, when they got to the scene.He then pointed the gun to his left ribs and shot himself.His body was picked up that morning by the police after preliminary investigations and was deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy.Chief Superintendent Asare said the police suspect no foul play for now. He added however that investigations are still ongoing and that the pump action gun which had been registered in the name of the deceased had been sent for forensic laboratory examination.
