The Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOPSA) have also threatened to embark on strike after the Easter holidays.
This is due to what they say are distortions in their salaries since their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).
A number of public sector workers have embarked on a series of strikes since their migration onto the new Single Spine Salary Structure.
The latest was the nation’s teachers who withdrew their services for a week due to distortions in their salary after migrating onto the SSSS.
Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) on Wednesday threatened to strike due to the failure of the FWSC to implement a ruling by the National Labour Commission (NLC) in 2011.
According to the leaders of the GHOPSA, their patience has run out since the various institutions responsible for their migration have shown little interest in resolving the matter.
The General Secretary of GHOPSA, Franklin Acheampong in an interview with stated that “our members are tired; for the past two years, some of our members have received GHC 0, GHC 100 for a whole month’s work; we are tired.”
He explained that “what we are receiving on the SSSS is lower than what we were previously receiving. Meanwhile, the tenet of the SSSS policy was not to make any staff worse off.”
He accused the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) of blatantly refusing to implement a ruling by the National Labour Commission (NLC) regarding their grade structure and their conversion difference refund.
“We have realized that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission are just dilly dallying with us, they are playing tricks with us, when we go to our employers, they say we should allow the institutions to work, when we going to the institutions, they are telling us to seek political favours.”
GHOPSA members are currently only working from 8am to 5pm and have also refused to work on weekends and holidays to express their displeasure.
