President John Mahama has renewed Ghana’s commitment to strengthen her relations with China by encouraging government-private investment partnerships in the two countries.
“Government is reviewing Ghana’s Investment Promotion Act to be more responsive to the needs of all investors that want to do business in the country,” he said.
The president renewed this commitment when a Chinese delegation called on him at the Flagstaff House, Kanda in Accra.
The delegation is on a five-day tour of Ghana as part of their trade and commercial relations with many African countries.
Apart from honouring the relations that was initiated by late President Kwame Nkrumah 51 years ago, the Ghana China Friendship Association would also engage themselves in mining, afforestation, energy renewal, tourism promotion, and natural resources.
President Mahama said China has been instrumental in the development process of the nation, recounting the provision of funds from the EXIM Bank for the construction of the Bui Power Project in the Brong Ahafo Region.
He said former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and late John Evans Atta Mills all visited China because of the long standing friendship the countries had enjoyed over the last 51 years.
He assured that Ghana was the safest country to invest and appealed to potential investors to take advantage of the investor-friendly environment in the coming years.
Leader of the delegation, Xu Kaiyu, said the various fora they were holding in Ghana are aimed at promote cooperation between China and Ghana on one side, and China and the African continent on the other.
He said the Chinese government was planning to make Ghana the shipping, financial and trade centre of Africa in subsequent years.
