The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for a stakeholders’ meeting that will help resolve the numerous grievances on the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy.
Several public sector workers including doctors, pharmacists and teachers have been agitating over their placement on the Single Spine pay structure, delays in the payment market premiums among others.
The TUC is also asking that all public office holders, under Article 71 of the Constitution, be put on the new pay policy to avoid unregulated increment in their salaries.
Article 71 office holders include: the Speaker and Deputy Speakers and Members of Parliament, the Chief Justice and the other Justices of the Superior Court of Judicature, the Auditor-General, the Chairman and Deputy Chairmen of the Electoral Commission, Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice and his deputies, and the District Assemblies Common Fund Administrator.
They also include the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the other members of (i) a National Council for Higher Education, the Public Services Commission, the National Media Commission, the Lands Commission and the National Commission for Civic Education.
The President, the Vice President, the Chairman and the other members of the Council of State, Ministers of State and their Deputy Ministers also fall within the bracket.
Secretary General of the TUC, Kofi Asamoa, told Joy News it will be necessary to call this forum before the month ends considering the current agitations on the labour front.
He said as a way of way of ensuring equity it has become necessary to bring on board all those who matter in the public sector pay system as quickly as possible to “exhaustively discuss” the implementation of the Single Spine.
