The strained relationship between striking doctors and salary negotiator, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission appears to be getting worse.
The President of the Ghana Medical Association Dr Kwabena Adusei Poku told Joy News the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission cannot be trusted because of its penchant for “lies, half truths and propaganda.”
The doctors, per a Labour Commission ruling, have been asked to return to work as government prepares to pay their arrears in three installments but they have disregarded the ruling.
The President, John Mahama appealed to the doctors to return to work and continue negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
The opposition New Patriotic Party has also joined the chorus of appeals to the striking doctors to return to work.
But the doctors remain adamant. President of the Ghana Medical Association, Adusei Poku told Joy News’ Anny Osabutey they have no hope in the negotiator.
He said the many meetings with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission have been nothing more than talk shops with no clear solutions found.
Adusei Poku wondered why the Association will be negotiating with Fair and Salaries Commission when they are in no position to pay the salaries they negotiate.
He said the Finance Ministry which has the ability to pay the salaries appears to be at the background and directing affairs.
He said they have met the Labour Commission eight times already and nothing conclusive has come out of it, adding there is no point in continued negotiations without payment.
Meanwhile, the strike is said to be taking a toll on referral hospitals and the 37 Military hospitals in Accra.
