The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana is calling for the dismissal of the leadership of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) because it has failed in its mandate to address issues relating to public sector workers. The society which has backed the strike by pharmacists has also accused the FWSC of failing to implement rulings by the Labour Commission resulting in the on-going industrial action.Speaking to Joys News, President of the Society, James Ohemeng Kyei said leadership of the Commission needs “persons with tact, objectivity, and respect for all parties on the labour front”.It has therefore called on the government to act as a matter of urgency with respect to the replacement of leaders of the FWSC.The association has also accused the commission of peddling lies and misrepresenting facts to the general public. The FWSC claimed “public sector pharmacists once demanded to be paid as medical doctors”. When we asked them to produce a document to indicate that this was the decision of the Ghana Health Council, they couldn’t produce any” he stated.
