The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has suspended its two weeks strike. The teachers stayed away from the classroom over delays in the payment of arrears owed them under the new pay policy Single Spine Salary Structure. But the Association President Dr Anthony Simmons confirmed to Joy News they have suspended the strike and will return to the classroom on Tuesday. The suspension followed a meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and other stakeholders on Tuesday. Simmons said they were moved by pleas from students and other well meaning Ghanaians to suspend the strike pending a resolution of their grievances. The Association kicked against government’s proposal for a three-tranche payment of their arrears but Simmons said they have been presented with a new arrangement for payment of their arrears. He would not say exactly what the new arrangement is and deadlines for the implementation.
