The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) has commenced investigations into circumstances that led to the leakage of some papers in the ongoing Senior High School Certificate Examination. WAEC Monday announced the cancellation of the government 1 and 2 papers explaining, the papers had been compromised. Students across the country will have to re-sit the papers on May 17, 2013. Public Affairs Director of WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, has said a nationwide inquiry has been launched while preparations are made for students to re-write the leaked papers. She revealed there are a number of factors that may have led the leakage of the examination papers. According to her, there were some reports of a break in into a depot where the question papers were stored, but also the leakage could be from the printing press where they print the exam papers. She said in other instances, students had access to the question papers at some examination centres before the test begun. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Monday cancelled Government 1&2 examination papers after "routine inspections" revealed that the secrecy of papers before examination date, have been "compromised", a statement issued in Accra said. The Examination Council which is conducting the May/June 2013 West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE) said they had found students with "materials" that suggested papers had been leaked. Mrs. Agnes Cudjoe, Principal Public Affairs Officer who signed that statement said, WAEC "regrets" this uncomfortable measure.
