A former executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Frankie Asare Donkor is advocating a boycott of all military activities until soldiers accused of assaulting two journalists are prosecuted.During the Independence Day parade, one journalist was slapped whilst the other had his private parts electrocuted. The military exonerated its personnel after a committee it constituted to investigate the matter found no wrong doing on their part.Defence Minister Mark Woyongo has however assured of further investigations into the assault. The Defence Minister, who described the incident as remorseful and unfortunate, tells Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng in an interview that he will do everything possible to restore the rapport between military and the media. He was however happy that the Col. Mbawine Atintande, Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Armed Forces, has rendered an apology to the media for the actions of the soldiers, and hoped the “media will take it in good faith.”.He also promised to discuss the issue further with the military high command with the hope that after the end of the investigations some punitive measures would be meted out to the soldiers who would be found culpable. But a former Deputy General Secretary Frankie Asare Donkor of the Ghana Journalists Association says the military must go a step further and hand over the erring personnel to the police for prosecution. He tells Joy News until that is done, journalists must boycott all activities of the military.
