The Presidential taskforce responsible for implementing specially prioritised projects has said, it will soon advertise available projects for interested firms to apply and start working on them.The taskforce made up of former Works and Housing Minister E.T. Mensah, former Health Minister Alban Bagbin and former Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka have been directed to coordinate the construction of 200 Senior High Schools, Teacher Training Colleges and one Public University in the Eastern region as well as the development of ultra-modern Regional and Specialist Hospitals.Coordinator of the taskforce Dr Steven Ayidiya, told Joy News some contractors have already submitted their bids for consideration.He said to ensure transparency of the process the taskforce is also putting together a standard criteria for eligibility and selection for the contracts. President John Mahama on April 11, inaugurated a five-member priority projects taskforce that would coordinate all the key promises he made prior to the 2012 general election.The Taskforce is made up of Mr P.V. Obeng, Convener, while Mr Alban Bagbin, Cletus Avoka, E.T. Mensah and Stephen Ayidiah are members.Apart from coordinating the promises, the taskforce would also be working within three main thematic areas, namely Education, Health and Transport.President Mahama intimated the taskforce would assist him to execute the establishment of 200 new Senior High Schools, new district hospitals and expansion of the aviation sector.There were criticisms from some social commentators and policy analysts at the time, that the roles of the taskforce would conflict with those of the various sector Ministers.But the President dismissed those impressions saying, “They have well defined roles and my expectation is that, they will follow the laid down procedures by being transparent and open to people they collaborate with.”“Many issues came up during our campaigns and to maintain that integrity with Ghanaians, we are ready to walk the talk to redeem all those promises,” President Mahama added.
