The former Member of Parliament for Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has decried what he says is the breakdown of security in the Ashanti Region.
He said the horrific murder of two people in broad day light Wednesday has sent terror down the spines of residents.
Kwadwo Asamoah popularly called Gauso and Victor Ocran were shot in broad day light on Wednesday at Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi.
Jumah said the gangster fashion in which the two were killed typified the extent to which security has broken down in the region.
He also cited the incident in which a group of young men and women who rode on motorbikes and brazenly fired warning shots in the air.
He said for these major incidents to have happened in two successive months is a major source of worry for many in the region.
He said the police must quickly build confidence in the residence by adopting an intelligence led policing in the country.
He was not happy that with the presence of the Criminal Investigative Department, Bureau of National Investigations and other security institutions, serious crimes such as these will go on without any arrest of the perpetrators.
But the Ashanti Region Police PRO, DSP Mohammed Tanko said security has not broken down in the region.
He admitted though that “crime cannot be completely be eradicated” in the country but said they are working hard to bring down such attacks to the “barest minimum.”
He called for the public support in the fight against crime.
