Two suspected armed robbers have been lynched at Atwima Boko in the Ashanti Region, early Monday morning.
The robbers were alleged to have robbed victims of mobile phones and other personal effects but were trailed by the youth in the town and were lynched.
Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor told Joy News the incident happened in Atwima Boko precisely at Botansu, in the Ashanti Region.
He said, according to an eyewitness’ account, the suspected robbers who were believed to be on a robbery spree also succeeded in robbing a student of the school fees.
Youth in the area, he said, pursued the men to a stream where luck eluded the robbers as they could not cross the stream. The youth then pounced on them and lynched them.
According to Erastus, the youth in the area accused the police of not doing enough to apprehend perpetrators of murder and other crimes in the area. They cited an instance where an orange seller was raped and later died of serious knife wounds she sustained in the hands of the rapist.
A resident told Joy News the robbers have been “patrolling” the area and “beating people, so the youth decided to take the law into their own hands”.
He said the residents are “not feeling safe again”. The rate of crime in the area, he said, has also affected schooling as students who used to go to school early now report to school late to avoid being attacked.
Erastus said Asokwa District Police commander on the other hand blamed the people in the area of not volunteering information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.
