AngloGold Ashanti has been served with a writ relating to community health issues around its Obuasi Mine. The allegations arise from practices at the Obuasi Mine, prior to and during the 1990s, which involved the use of chemicals, which the claimants assert has resulted in disease.
AngloGold Ashanti wishes to assure its communities and stakeholders that it takes these allegations extremely serious. The health of the communities around company operations is of paramount importance to AngloGold Ashanti.
While the court case in the Kumasi Human Rights Court proceeds, AngloGold Ashanti continues to engage communities around Obuasi Mine to address their issues of concern.
In view of the legal proceedings in a High Court, AngloGold Ashanti cannot comment on specific statements and allegations. The company will provide details in due course.
