In a not-so-surprising unfolding of events at Cape Coast Friday afternoon, it was Assin State College that picked up the qualification slot to the 2019 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz.
The 13-year-old school was phenomenal against the likes of Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High which can boast of seeing the world decades before the victors.

Aggrey Mem. Zion SHS: 32pts
Gyaase SHS: 15pts
Fettehman SHS: 6pts
Efutu SHTS: 3pts#NSMQ2019Regionals #NSMQ2019
Congrats Assin State College!!!
Aggrey Memorial Zion High’s experience could only fetch them 32 points, six short of the victors’.
The four round contest was all but what Assin S.C. needed to shrug off other opponents; Gyaase Senior High, who have now been kicked out at the regional qualifiers two times in a row.
Gyaase’s 15 points is a five-point improvement on what they scored in 2018, but unfortunately, it was just not enough to send them into the national championship. As the oldies say, “try again next year.”
Fettehman Senior High scored six points and Efutu SHTS lagged behind ending the contest with a paltry three points.

Students and sympathisers of Assin State College were seen in a jubilant mood as they celebrated the hard-fought victory.
In the other contest for the day, Winneba Senior High took no chances in lording their strength over fallen-from-grace-Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High.

The Central region-based girls’ school have been accused of living on past glories and their performance on Friday did them good in shaking off that tag.
There was a whopping 26-point difference between them and first placed Winneba SHS who booked their nationals ticket with 45 points.
Moree SHTS and Adankwaman High watched the two over dogs do their thing as they could only come out of the otherwise hot contest with seven and six points, respectively.
