A Turkish delegation which is in the country to launch the National Mosque Project being constructed with support from the Turkish Government at Kanda in Accra, on Friday called on Vice President Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House.
The delegation is led by Professor Hassan Kamel Yilmaz, Turkey’s Deputy President of Religious Affairs, as well as the National Chief Iman, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
The project, when completed will house a school complex, residence for the Chief Imam, a mosque to accommodate 10,000 people amongst others.
Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur told the delegation government is determined to create a harmonious relationship between Christians and Muslims.
He said Ghana takes a cue from countries like Turkey where both faiths have come together to build the country socially and economically.
The land for the project was donated by Government of Ghana to the Muslim community in 1995, in replacement for the mosque demolished for the construction of the current Rawlings' Park, in Accra.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur expressed satisfaction with progress of the project.
The Vice President reiterated government’s commitment to deepen relations with Turkey, especially with respect to the various bilateral agreements between the two countries.
He said Ghana is reaping economic benefits from Turkey which he said is evidenced in the establishement of forty-two (42) registered Turkish projects by the Ghana Investment Promotion Council and the volumes of trade between both countries.
