Twelve medical students of the University for Development Studies (UDS) were admitted Thursday at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after eating food, suspected to have been poisoned, at a colleague’s birthday party. The 12 are in their six-year students offering their clinicals at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.Sources said some of the students after eating the pastries hallucinated while others collapsed, Radio Justice’s Martina Bugri reported. She told Joy News hospital authorities say the students are in stable condition, but the police add that the students "are in pain".Samples of the food have been taken by the Food and Drugs Authority for laboratory tests, as the police investigate the alleged poisoning.According to the police, they are also interested in finding out why the person at whose birthday party the incident happened did not eat as much as the others did.Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Mahama Arhin told Joy News the birthday boy told the police “he took just small…we want to know why he didn’t take as much as he gave to the friends”.Meanwhile, police preliminary investigations suggest that the margarine used to prepare the pastries might have been contaminated.
