The Nadowli District hospital has called on stakeholders to come to their aid as it hopes to continue providing quality health care to the general public. The call was made during a staff awards ceremony which was held to recognize and reward deserving health workers of the hospital. The awards ceremony which is the first of its kind to be held by the hospital, honored a total number of 28 workers with different category of awards. The awards included Long Service Award, Best Dressed Nurse Award, Retirees on Contract Awards, Best Unit Staff Award, Prescriber of the Year Award as well as the Overall Best Worker Award. Acting Medical Director, Mr. Daniel Ekwam congratulated the award winners for their sterling performances that earned them the recognition and also urged them to serve as role models to their other colleagues. Mr. Ekwam said the Ghana Health Service recognizes the issue of staff welfare and motivation as key to improving staff commitment and performance, hence the decision by the hospital management to award hardworking and deserving staff in appreciation of their contribution to improved service delivery in the hospital. According to the Acting Medical Director, the hospital has witnessed some few positive developments. Notable among them is a new Children’s Ward built by the Nadowli District Assembly and the Japanese Government; an Ultra-modern stand-by generator by the Ministry of Health as well as the renovation of the hospital by the Member of Parliament for Kaleo-Nadowli constituency, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin. That notwithstanding, he was quick to add that the hospital needed more aid to help in its delivery of efficient and effective healthcare. He said since the hospital was upgraded in 2001, it has been grappling with its fair share of challenges. “Critical staffs such as midwives and staff nurses are inadequate. Four permanent professional midwives are running 24 hour service in the hospital which is of serious concern to the hospital management in the light of priority attention being given to maternal healthcare. We would still passionately appeal to all stakeholders to come to our aid in the following areas; a new vehicle to support our already weak fleet, acquisition of an aesthetic machine for theatre; kitchen and fence wall as well as staff accommodation”. The Deputy Director of Administration of the Regional Health Directorate, Mr. Kaba Edward, speaking on behalf of the Regional Health Director commended the management of the hospital for organization the event in order to motivate the continuous staff and those who are going on retirement. Mr. Kaba stated that the challenges that have bedeviled the hospital sooner or later will be dealt with as plans are far advanced to open a midwifery training school in the Region. Mr. Kaba therefore congratulated all staff, especially the award winners and hoped that it will go a long way in improving the service delivery at the hospital. Various prizes, including standing fans, televisions sets and refrigerators were given out to various award winners at the ceremony.
