The Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs chaired by Daasebre Oti Boateng has ruled that Paramount Chief of Akwamunan, Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III, should remain the chief of the area. The ruling followed two petitions from another interested faction- Abusuapanyin Antwi Maanu and Abrewatia of Nana Yaa Ansah gate of Akwamuman-who filed a suit at the Chieftaincy tribunal challenging the selection and installation of Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III.The plaintiffs had prayed the tribunal of the Regional House of Chiefs to restrain Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III from parading himself as the chief of Akwamuman. The plaintiffs however withdrew the case in voluntary arbitration.According to the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, this follows a request by Nana Takyi, the Chief of Kukuom and a former president of the Bono Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, to settle the case out of court and ensure that, peace prevails in Akwamu. The people of Bono Ahafo share common tradition and history with the Akwamus which date several centuries. After weeks of dialogue the Kukuomhene presented a report to the Judicial Committee indicating that, the petitioners have agreed to withdraw the case and allow the chief to rule. The Chieftaincy Tribunal accordingly adopted the report and ruled that, Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III remains the chief of Akwamu.Meanwhile, one of the petitioners Abrewatia of Nana Yaa Ansah gate raised an objection to the fact that, she withdrew in the arbitration process hence, did not endorse the report from the mediator, Kukuomhene.
